So after veiwing bristol from the air(g maps) i could not shake the feeling that Bristol is one big star fort/citidel.
Anyways it took me a while but when i looked into it i came back with this,
http://www.fortified-places.com/bristol.html
So it seems that my suspicions were correct and bristol is laid out like so many other citidels/walled citys.
Most of the walls have now gone but the wall at Brandon Hill and the famous land mark Cabot tower are still there.
The thing that set me off is the structure to the left(red roof) which has all of the familiar angles of the forts we know.
Colston fort is still there but has been repurposed
Here is an old approx map of the area circa
I am also certain that the suspension bridge and clifton rocks railway fit into this puzzle somehow( the bristol obsevetory has a funny tale of how one of it's owners just happened to dig a tunnel that led to the discovery of the Giant cave).
If anyone knows more about Bristol please share!
