There are 4 satellites in a row running roughly North to South in Gosport, but before 1963 there were 5 of them...
These were the "Palmerston Follies". The 5 forts combined were also known as the Elson - Gomer Line.
So running from North to South we have:
Fort Elson (Still there but overgrown, and on MOD property....not accessible)
Fort Brockhurst (Perfectly preserved, accessible, and occasionally open to the public)
Fort Rowner (Visible from the road but on MOD property...not accessible)
Fort Grange (Visible from road,on same piece of MOD property as Fort Rowner...not accessible)
And finally...and this is the one NOT on Colm's list...
Fort Gomer (Torn down and completely demolished in 1963 to build a housing estate... nothing remains of it,but old photos are readily available via Google images.... it's size and specifications were exactly the same as the other 4 forts)
It's location is/was 50° 47' 28. 21" N. 1° 09' 52. 94" W on Google Earth
Also,if you draw a line between the 4(5) forts and carry it on southwards, you end up hitting something known locally as No 1 Battery (now a diving museum). Colm has this marked on his list as a place of interest...so this structure is known about, but I'm not sure that that fact it lines up has been noted before.

Would love to see what this area looked like before the 'chaos'. I remember finding the sites here, it took several GE visits, and there might be more to find...so many details.
