Old maps with starforts

Post by Ginthus » Thu Jan 16, 2020 6:46 am

Found something interesting. There are many old maps, which have cities marked as stars. Like this one:
1812 Carte de la Russie Europeenne
http://www.retromap.ru/m/#141812_002009 ... ,21.100959
At first i was like - nah, cant be so many starforts. But then I tried to check the locations and was shocked. Like this location on the link. Its not on the kmz file, and yet do you see a citadel on the southeast and a hedgehog at the north? I do.

And one more thing. Found this googlemap. Dont know whose work it is, but this might be helpfull:

Hey Ginthus - we now have many hundreds of regional maps from all over the world in our possession - and they clearly show that prior to approximately 1812, there were many more stars everywhere. Literally. A map of France will be ready in the next few weeks that confirms virtually all type 1 layout towns and cities were stars. It's looking like there will be in excess of 800-900 stars of one form or another in France alone - and that figure doesn't include many hilltop stars, hilltop satellites, long thinnies and auxilliary buildings. I apologise that information has been slow to come forward, but this is a big project.
