Malta in detail
When it comes to scale Malta is a prime example. Where does bedrock end and masonry begin?

Wow just amazing, for a long time my awe was reserved for what we call megalithic structures but some of these star forts are just off the scale in terms of visual impact and that is from the stuff we see above ground, i know that most if not all have just as much going on underneath the surface as above and if not even more.
I also love the multi level aqueduct, kind of like the one that runs to the vatican!

Also funnily enough this one has a rosebud castle in the center just like the Castel Sant'Angelo, which is the one next door to the vatican, affectionately referred to as Hadrian's mole!
Started life as a tomb, converted to castle in 1500ish although i do not know when the star was put around the fort but at this time they also made a corridor to the vatican that allowed the pope to retreat to the fort during the sack of Rome!
