Southsea Castle, Portsmouth

Took a flying visit to Portsmouth this week to have a look at the teeny-tiny star 'outpost' better known as Southsea Castle.

Here's some pics -

It's quite funny really, how blatant the boolsheet is when it comes to the history of these starforts.

Here's a pic of the plaque on the central square-shaped 'castle' that was built by Henry the Eight - (and also note the shoddy brickwork in general)

right click, view and zoom to read the plaque.

Then, inside the square 'castle' that Henry built, is a series a wall displays that show drawings from the period of Henry's reign -

The castle at the centre of the starfort is clearly circular. LOL!

The outer walls of the starfort - the parts that haven't been messed with in the intervening years - are superb. No gaps between any of the stones, perfectly straight and true and very imposing. The Star Civ knew how to build exceptional stonework, that's for sure.

Very impressive for what is just a detail of a vast complex.
